In our view, BMX is the greatest sport for kids! Offering opportunities for all ages and abilities, BMX can take you to all corners of the earth, provide you access to a tight-knit community of similarly motivated individuals, offer a platform to develop important physical and life skills as well as nurture a sense of individuality and creativity. Endearingly, all of this is underpinned by the fact that BMX is a sport that is accessible for all budgets and to the whole family, including mum and dad!
As mentioned above, BMX is by nature an extreme sport which carries subsequent risks whether that be taking things slow and overbalancing or sending a massive jump and coming up short. Irrespective, as with most things in life, for each risk involved in BMX there is generally a means to counterbalance the risk. With the correct safety gear, an appropriately sized bike, some guidance (from the helpful and experienced LUXBMX staff) and a sprinkling of confidence, your safety will be vastly enhanced. While dangers may persist, the team at LUXBMX think that this is part of life and should be embraced.
The beauty of BMX is that you can start basically as early as physically possible, with there being formal racing categories starting in support of kids at the age of 5. It is not uncommon to see children between the ages of 3-5 at the pumptrack, skatepark or racetrack, assisted by parents as required. Generally, once your child can maintain their balance, they are encouraged to join their local race club, or head down to the pumptrack and slowly build their skills and confidence. Whether it be race or freestyle, BMX is a very inclusive sport with a family orientation, come and try for yourself.
BMX is inherently a risk-taking activity, however it can be as safe or dangerous as you choose to make it. BMX generally involves high speeds, tricky obstacles as well as consideration to other riders also navigating speed and jumps. While BMX can be dangerous, each element can be suitably managed to reduce the risk. For example, riders can improve their safety through wearing full-face helmets and protective gear as well as building confidence to tackle terrains appropriate to your skill level. Come and speak to the experts at LUXBMX to make sure you are well informed before you take off on your BMX journey.
BMX is great exercise! Riding bikes allows you to improve your health and wellbeing through a form of physical activity which covers a broad range of movements and skills while at the same time (and this is the most important part) enjoying yourself. BMX should always be about having fun and connecting with not only yourself, but other riders. Beyond this element, BMX bikes are a great, eco-friendly substitute for a private vehicle and an awesome way to bring the whole family together.
Generally speaking, riding a BMX bike in the rain would not present any significant risks. The kids bike range at LUXBMX includes a selection of models which are super durable and robust, comprising resilience to weather. Should you choose to ride your kids BMX bike in the rain, you will need to take care to maintain it properly. There may also be extra care required in allowing for a slippery surface, whether that be dirt on the racetrack or concrete down at the skatepark.
