Description

This one is a proper build: our BMX-perts have laced the ION BMX 18 inch carbon rims to the limited edition rose gold Colony Wasp hub set with Spectre Grade 5 6Al4V titanium spokes, and the result is about as bomb proof as an 18 inch wheelset gets. The rims use Toray T800s intermediate modulus carbon fibre for high tensile strength without the weight, the hubs run 6061-T6 alloy shells on sealed bearings with a 72 point direct engagement 9T driver out back, and the titanium spokes are roughly 40% lighter than stainless, dropping around 150 grams of rotational weight. Front and rear both run female axle designs with 10mm hardened chromoly bolts, both are 36 hole, and both take the matching Colony Wasp hub guards. All up it comes in at 1540g.

  • Between an 18 and a 20? Take the 20. It is the size they will keep riding, and an 18 gets outgrown quickly.
  • They should be able to stand over the top tube with both feet flat on the ground.
