Description

The Radio Helium frame has been out on track now for several years, with each year seeing the brand steadily improving this frame. For 2027 the colours and graphics have definitely taken on a clean look, with solid colourways and bold Radio decals on the down tube.

Technically, the frame is manufactured from industry trusted hydroformed 6061 alloy tubing, which produces a super lightweight race frame that is strong enough to take on the big tracks and high speeds they produce. Even the youngest racers need a frame that can take on 5m hill and everything that follows on from it.

The Radio Helium frame has proved over the past 5 races seasons that they can not only produce race wins, they are built to a standard where you can trust it with touches like a forged (read strong) dropout that can integrate Radio's disc mount. Or if you're running V-brakes, then Radio has you covered here as well. You have the choice.

Speaking of the dropout, on the Expert XL Radio have utilised the Sliding Dropout Disc System (SDDS) for 10 or 15mm axles (please advise us of your axle preference)

Features

  • Hydroformed 6061 alloy tubing. 1590g of light, strong race frame, built to hold speed on the big tracks.
  • 20.5" top tube, 20.7" rider area. Expert XL room for a rider who has outgrown a standard Expert, with 13.2" minimum chainstays behind them.
  • SDDS sliding dropouts. Take 10 or 15mm axles and include all the hardware, so you can set the rear end where you want it.
  • Flat mount disc or V-brake. V-brake mounts are removable at 77mm pivot to pivot, so take them off once you commit to disc.

Heights overlap between bike sizes on purpose. If you fall in two size categories, a growing rider new to racing is usually better suited to the larger bike, a experienced rider who wants the bike to more responsive should err on the smaller size. Some brands label the Pro size Pro L, with the same fit.

How to measure

Stand your rider against a wall in the shoes they ride in, heels flat, and mark the top of their head. Measure from the floor to the mark. Just don't guess their height either, you know how fast they can grow!

Here are some tips

  • Between two sizes and still growing? Take the larger size, but make sure you check the top tube length of the bike. The length of top tube for a given size (Expert XL as an example) can vary up to a half inch or more across brands. Most Expert XL frames are 20", but we've seen them as long as 20.7"
  • Experienced racer and wanting the bike to be more responsive? Take the smaller size. You want the bike to be "under you", not a stretch to the bars and cranks.
  • Top tube is the number that actually changes the fit, so compare it against the bike they ride now.

Still not sure? We're the experts and size bikes for riders every day of the week. Our team has decades of experience between them and will help you decide which bike is the right fit based on rider height and racing experience.
