Description

Radio have been quietly chipping away at development on their Quartz frame since its introduction a few years back to a point where it's one of the most advanced aluminium race frames available.

For 2025 one of the innovations is the Sliding Dropout Disc System (SDDS) which utilises a flat mount style calliper and internal cable routing. This not only gives the frame a clean look, the flat mount caliper system is in our opinion one of the best disc brake designs for BMX frames. BMX race bikes don't require large rotors to dissipate heat after repeated braking efforts, meaning that a small 120mm rotor can be utilised, keeping weight low and hardware tucked away from harms way.

Speaking of dropouts, the 2025 Quartz frame can be built up with either a 10mm bolt-up rear hub, or a 15mm thru-bolt hub.

The frames are manufactured from 6061-t6 hydroformed Paradigm superior tubing, which means that Radio can dial in where the frames require strength and beef up the tubing thickness, and shave that wall thickness right down in areas that don't require it. Leading to a class leading lightness for an aluminium pro frame.

Features

  • Sliding dropout disc system. The 2025 SDDS runs a flat mount calliper with internal cable routing, so the brake hardware sits tucked away out of harm's way.
  • Runs 10mm or 15mm rear hubs. Build it with a 10mm bolt-up or a 15mm thru-bolt rear hub: all the dropout hardware is included.
  • 1.77 kg hydroformed 6061 frame. Paradigm tubing is thickened where the frame needs strength and shaved down where it doesn't, for class leading lightness in an aluminium pro frame.
  • A small 120mm rotor is plenty. Race efforts don't build the heat that demands a big rotor, so you can run a 120mm rotor and keep weight low.
  • Race fittings sorted. Tapered 1-1/8" to 1.5" integrated head tube, BSA 68mm bottom bracket, 27.2mm seat post and a 31.8mm ID seat clamp.

Heights overlap between bike sizes on purpose. If you fall in two size categories, a growing rider new to racing is usually better suited to the larger bike, a experienced rider who wants the bike to more responsive should err on the smaller size. Some brands label the Pro size Pro L, with the same fit.

How to measure

Stand your rider against a wall in the shoes they ride in, heels flat, and mark the top of their head. Measure from the floor to the mark. Just don't guess their height either, you know how fast they can grow!

Here are some tips

  • Between two sizes and still growing? Take the larger size, but make sure you check the top tube length of the bike. The length of top tube for a given size (Expert XL as an example) can vary up to a half inch or more across brands. Most Expert XL frames are 20", but we've seen them as long as 20.7"
  • Experienced racer and wanting the bike to be more responsive? Take the smaller size. You want the bike to be "under you", not a stretch to the bars and cranks.
  • Top tube is the number that actually changes the fit, so compare it against the bike they ride now.

Still not sure? We're the experts and size bikes for riders every day of the week. Our team has decades of experience between them and will help you decide which bike is the right fit based on rider height and racing experience.
