Description

The disc evolution continues as Stay Strong moves to the V5 version of their ever popular aluminium race frame series. The team behind this iconic brand know their race stuff and hundreds of racers around the world confirm this by taking out race wins and titles every weekend.

What makes these Stay Strong V5 frames special? From the Mini to the Pro XXXL the same attention to detail is applied in manufacturing these disc brake beauties. Starting with the tested and proven 6061 alloy tubing that is butted in various directions, Stay Strong have applied their years of knowledge and experience to the geometry of these frames. They run a little higher BB than other frames in this segment, pitching the rider a little further over the front of the bike on the gate. Well, that's our take on the specs.

With new colours and decals for the V5 series of frames, plus the deletion of brake mounts carries over from the V4 frames all adds up to a smooth looking premium aluminium frame

The "Pro" frames (including Cruiser) all run with a BB86 bottom bracket and a 10mm enclosed dropout, though there is an option to bump this up to a 15mm thru-bolt set up. The head tube on Pro frames are a tapered 1-1/8th to 1.5 adding to the stiffness of the front end. Run this with a 20mm axle and you're set for success.

With one of the best disc brake set up in the business, we'd definitely be thinking about setting up this frame with the 15mm thru-bolt to make wheel and gearing changes a piece of pi$$.

Trust a brand that's been winning for years with real racing pedigree.

Features

  • Butted 6061 aluminium race frame. Tubing butted in various directions holds the Pro XXXL to 1628g, so the longest Pro sizes still get out of the gate quickly.
  • 22.25" top tube, 15" chainstay. Proper length for the tallest riders, with a rear end long enough to keep the front wheel planted under power.
  • 12" bottom bracket height. Sits a little higher than most frames in this class, pitching the rider forward on the gate and adding pedal clearance in the turns.
  • 10mm or 15mm thru-bolt rear. Slotted dropouts run either axle, and the 15mm thru-bolt setup makes wheel and gearing changes a much quicker job.
  • Disc post mount, 140mm rotor. BB86 bottom bracket and disc only mounts, with the rim brake mounts deleted for a cleaner frame.

Heights overlap between bike sizes on purpose. If you fall in two size categories, a growing rider new to racing is usually better suited to the larger bike, a experienced rider who wants the bike to more responsive should err on the smaller size. Some brands label the Pro size Pro L, with the same fit.

How to measure

Stand your rider against a wall in the shoes they ride in, heels flat, and mark the top of their head. Measure from the floor to the mark. Just don't guess their height either, you know how fast they can grow!

Here are some tips

  • Between two sizes and still growing? Take the larger size, but make sure you check the top tube length of the bike. The length of top tube for a given size (Expert XL as an example) can vary up to a half inch or more across brands. Most Expert XL frames are 20", but we've seen them as long as 20.7"
  • Experienced racer and wanting the bike to be more responsive? Take the smaller size. You want the bike to be "under you", not a stretch to the bars and cranks.
  • Top tube is the number that actually changes the fit, so compare it against the bike they ride now.

Still not sure? We're the experts and size bikes for riders every day of the week. Our team has decades of experience between them and will help you decide which bike is the right fit based on rider height and racing experience.
