Removable Brake Mounts

Rolling brakeless and changed your mind? Most modern freestyle frames ship with removable brake mounts, so putting a rear U-brake back on is a five-minute job, as long as you buy the mounts your frame is actually tapped for. All the kits here use the standard 9mm x 16mm U-brake post, so any 990-style brake such as an Odyssey Evo or a Springhanger will bolt straight on.

Thread-in or bolt-through? Know which mount your frame takes

There are two ways removable mounts attach, and they are not interchangeable. A thread-in mount is one piece: the post itself has a threaded stem that screws straight into the frame boss. A bolt-through mount is two pieces: the post sits over the boss and a separate bolt passes through it into the frame thread. Once you know which style your frame uses, the second thing to check is the thread, which is one of three metric sizes: M6 x 1.0, M8 x 1.25 or M10 x 1.5. Brands change specs between model years and we can only vouch for the frames listed on each product page, so treat this table as a starting point rather than a guarantee. Note that our M10 mounts are all 1.5 pitch; if your frame takes the finer M10 x 1.25 thread used by a few US brands, or you are not sure what you have, email us with your frame model and year before you order.

Finishing the job

Most kits include the cable stop, gyro tabs and cable guide that get pulled off a frame when it goes brakeless, but the generic threaded mounts and the flush bolts are posts and hardware only.
