Description

The Academy Desire Bike will be one of our most popular sellers here at LUXBMX and it's not hard to see why. Featuring a full Chromoly frame, forks and bars, as well as sealed bearings throughout and double wall rims the Academy Desire Bike packs a whole lot of value that other brands can't even come close to. A 21 inch top tube means adults can ride this BMX bike comfortably.

Features
  • Full chromoly frame and bars. A 21" top tube on a full Cr-Mo frame with 13.25" chainstays and a 75° head angle: long enough for adults to ride comfortably.
  • Sealed bearings throughout. Academy alloy sealed bearing hubs front and rear, a sealed mid bottom bracket and a 1-1/8" integrated headset keep everything spinning smoothly.
  • Double wall alloy rims, 2.3" tyres. 36H double wall alloy rims laced with black stainless spokes, wrapped in 20 x 2.3" tyres, on a 9T cassette rear hub with a 14mm axle.
  • Tubular chromoly 3-piece cranks. 170mm Cr-Mo tubular cranks with an Academy 25T sprocket and KMC chain put strength where the bike cops the most abuse.
  • Full size cockpit. Cr-Mo bars at 9.0" rise and 28.5" wide on an Academy forged alloy 50mm top load stem, with a Hi-Ten tapered fork on a Cr-Mo steerer, all up 12.2 kg.

Assembly information

Your bike ships mostly assembled in the box. Finishing it takes most people 10 to 20 minutes with basic tools, and the video above walks through every step.

  • Fit the handlebars and line them up with the front wheel
  • Fit the front wheel, pedals and seat post
  • Check the brakes and tyre pressure before the first ride

Tools: Allen key set and a 15mm, 17mm or 19mm spanner for the pedals and axle nuts (bikes can vary between these three sizes). A socket is needed if installing pegs.

Top tube is measured from the centre of the seat tube to the centre of the head tube, so it is not the same as the length of the tube you can see.

  • A 20 inch bike is the standard adult BMX and most riders end up there, so do not size a tall child down to a smaller wheel.
  • 22, 24 and 26 inch bikes are adult bikes with a bigger wheel, not bigger frames for taller riders.
  • Size up for stability through trails and transitions. Size down if you want the bike quick and twitchy for spins and grinds.
  • Top tube is fixed, but stem length, fork offset and bar position all shift how roomy the bike feels once you are on it.
