Description

The Academy Inspire 16 Inch covers all the bases when it comes to 16" BMX bikes... It's spec'd correctly for the size with a shorter reach stem, shorter cranks and 7" rise bars. Not only that, the Inspire has sealed hubs, 3pc cranks and double wall rims!

Features

  • Spec'd correctly for a 16 inch. A shorter 40mm reach stem, shorter 127mm cranks and 7" rise bars at 23.0" wide: everything sized to the rider, not just the wheels.
  • Chromoly down tube frame. 16.0" top tube, 11.2" chainstays and a 75° head angle with a 1-1/8" integrated head tube and a mid bottom bracket.
  • Sealed hubs front and rear. Academy alloy sealed bearing hubs, a 9T cassette driver on a 14mm rear axle and a sealed mid bottom bracket keep it rolling smoothly.
  • Tubular chromoly 3-piece cranks. 127mm Cr-Mo tubular cranks with an Academy 25T sprocket and KMC chain give a kid-sized bike a proper three-piece drivetrain.
  • Double wall alloy rims. 36H double wall rims on black stainless spokes with 16 x 2.125" tyres, plus a Hi-Ten tapered fork with a Cr-Mo steerer and an Academy railed seat.

Assembly information

Your bike ships mostly assembled in the box. Finishing it takes most people 10 to 20 minutes with basic tools, and the video above walks through every step.

  • Fit the handlebars and line them up with the front wheel
  • Fit the front wheel, pedals and seat post
  • Check the brakes and tyre pressure before the first ride

Tools: Allen key set and a 15mm, 17mm or 19mm spanner for the pedals and axle nuts (bikes can vary between these three sizes). A socket is needed if installing pegs.

Rather have it done? Ask us about extra assembly before you order, or any local bike shop can finish the build for a small fee.

16 inch BMX sizing

A 16 inch bike suits a rider of about 96 to 122cm, usually 4 to 7 years old, on a 16 to 16.5 inch top tube. It is the size most kids learn to ride properly on.

Rider heightWheel sizeTop tube

160cm and up22"21 to 22.25"
160cm and up24"21.75 to 22"
160cm and up26"22 to 23"

Sizes overlap on purpose, so personal preference comes into it. At this wheel size the top tube barely changes the fit: go by height, and check they can stand over the bike flat footed.

How to measure

Stand your rider against a wall in the shoes they ride in, heels flat, and mark the top of their head. Measure from the floor to the mark.

  • Between two wheel sizes? Go up. Kids grow into a bike far faster than they grow out of the fun.
  • They should be able to stand over the top tube with both feet flat on the ground.

Not sure? Send us their height and we will tell you what we would put them on.
