  • Light 6061-T6 alloy frame
  • Rigid alloy fork
  • Disc brakes front and rear

Description

Buying a bike for your child can be daunting, so Radio built the Zuma range around the idea of a kid sized MTB. The geometry is researched for smaller riders, sitting between a bike a child can learn the basics on and a more capable MTB for off road weekend rides with the parents.

The range runs from 14" for a first time rider up to 26" for the aspiring rookie. This 24" model uses a 6061-T6 alloy frame and rigid alloy fork with Promax mechanical disc brakes, and takes children specific parts from Promax, KMC, FSA, Vee Rubber and Satori.

Features

  • A kid sized MTB, not a shrunken one. Radio researched the geometry around smaller riders, so the Zuma 24 fits properly rather than being a scaled down adult bike.
  • Light 6061-T6 alloy frame. Alloy keeps the weight down, so a growing rider can lift, pedal and steer the bike without fighting it on longer rides.
  • Rigid alloy fork. The straight Zuma 24 fork is 6061-T6 alloy as well, keeping the front end light and simple with nothing to service.
  • Disc brakes front and rear. Promax DSK-310 mechanical discs with an alloy BL-42 lever give confident stopping on off road tracks and weekend family rides.
  • Cockpit scaled to smaller hands. 130mm flangeless grips, a 1" rise 31.8mm alloy bar and a 45mm reach frontload stem put the controls within easy reach.

Assembly information

Your bike ships mostly assembled in the box. Finishing it takes most people 10 to 20 minutes with basic tools, and the video above walks through every step.

  • Fit the handlebars and line them up with the front wheel
  • Fit the front wheel, pedals and seat post
  • Check the brakes and tyre pressure before the first ride

Tools: Allen key set and a 15mm, 17mm or 19mm spanner for the pedals and axle nuts (bikes can vary between these three sizes). A socket is needed if installing pegs.

Rather have it done? Ask us about extra assembly before you order, or any local bike shop can finish the build for a small fee.

24 inch BMX sizing

A 24 inch cruiser is a BMX with a bigger wheel, for riders about 160cm and up, on a 21.75 to 22 inch top tube. It is a different ride feel rather than a bigger frame for taller riders.

Rider heightWheel sizeTop tube

160cm and up24"21.75 to 22"
160cm and up26"22 to 23"

Sizes overlap on purpose, so personal preference comes into it. A big wheel rides longer than its top tube number suggests, so do not compare it straight against a 20 inch. Race cruisers are sized differently again: see the race guide.

How to measure

Stand against a wall in the shoes you ride in, heels flat, and mark the top of your head. Measure from the floor to the mark.

  • Choose a big wheel for the ride feel, not because you are tall. Plenty of tall riders stay on 20 inch.
  • Coming off a 20 inch? Expect it to feel longer and more stable, and slower to spin.

Not sure? Tell us your height and how you ride, and we will tell you what we would put you on.
