Let your little ones coast around in style on one of these sleek balance bikes from Kink. These little sleds have got to one of the coolest ways for your kids to start BMXing and provide a great framework to start working on the fundamentals of riding. Balance is key- but looking cool is also super important so Kink have gone to town making these look top notch including Mission parts where possible.

The Coast is all about inspiring kids to start riding from an early age. Balance bikes, like the Coast, help to teach kids balance and coordination instead of relying on training wheels. What’s special about the Coast, is the way it combines features and geometry for children, with that of a BMX bike. The Coast is truly a balance bike designed for working a child’s way up to their first BMX bike.

Assembly information

Your bike ships mostly assembled in the box. Finishing it takes most people 10 to 20 minutes with basic tools, and the video above walks through every step.

Fit the handlebars and line them up with the front wheel
Fit the front wheel, pedals and seat post
Check the brakes and tyre pressure before the first ride

Tools: Allen key set and a 15mm, 17mm or 19mm spanner for the pedals and axle nuts (bikes can vary between these three sizes). A socket is needed if installing pegs.

A 12 inch bike suits a rider of about 60 to 91cm, usually 2 to 4 years old, on a 12 to 12.5 inch top tube. It is the first bike after a balance bike.

Sizes overlap on purpose, so personal preference comes into it. At this wheel size the top tube barely changes the fit: go by height, and check they can stand over the bike flat footed.

How to measure

Stand your rider against a wall in the shoes they ride in, heels flat, and mark the top of their head. Measure from the floor to the mark.

Between two wheel sizes? Go up. Kids grow into a bike far faster than they grow out of the fun.
They should be able to stand over the top tube with both feet flat on the ground.
