Description

The Roaster is a 12 inch pedal bike for kids who have outgrown a balance bike. The Kink Roaster frame and Conduit fork are 100% Hi-Ten steel, which brings the whole bike in at 7.6kg and keeps it easy to manoeuvre.

Wide 2.25" Mission Tracker tyres add grip, and the coaster brake means there is nothing to squeeze: pedal backwards and it stops. A 12.5" top tube, 5" bars and 92mm cranks make it a sensible way to dip a toe into BMX.

Features

  • Straight from balance bike to pedals. A 12 inch wheel, a 12.5" top tube and 9.25" chainstays make this a first proper BMX for little riders.
  • Light at 7.6kg. 100% Hi-Ten steel through the Kink Roaster frame and Conduit fork keeps the weight low and the bike easy to handle.
  • Coaster brake, no levers to learn. Backpedal to stop on the Mission Breaker rear hub, so new riders can concentrate on pedalling and steering.
  • Wide 2.25" Mission Tracker tyres. The 12x2.25" tyres sit on Mission X7 16H rims for added grip.
  • Sized for small hands and legs. Mission Micro grips, a 5" Kink T500 bar, a Mission Frontload 30mm stem and Mission Junior pedals put everything within reach.

Assembly information

Your bike ships mostly assembled in the box. Finishing it takes most people 10 to 20 minutes with basic tools, and the video above walks through every step.

  • Fit the handlebars and line them up with the front wheel
  • Fit the front wheel, pedals and seat post
  • Check the brakes and tyre pressure before the first ride

Tools: Allen key set and a 15mm, 17mm or 19mm spanner for the pedals and axle nuts (bikes can vary between these three sizes). A socket is needed if installing pegs.

Rather have it done? Ask us about extra assembly before you order, or any local bike shop can finish the build for a small fee.

12 inch BMX sizing

A 12 inch bike suits a rider of about 60 to 91cm, usually 2 to 4 years old, on a 12 to 12.5 inch top tube. It is the first bike after a balance bike.

Rider heightWheel sizeTop tube

160cm and up22"21 to 22.25"
160cm and up24"21.75 to 22"
160cm and up26"22 to 23"

Sizes overlap on purpose, so personal preference comes into it. At this wheel size the top tube barely changes the fit: go by height, and check they can stand over the bike flat footed.

How to measure

Stand your rider against a wall in the shoes they ride in, heels flat, and mark the top of their head. Measure from the floor to the mark.

  • Between two wheel sizes? Go up. Kids grow into a bike far faster than they grow out of the fun.
  • They should be able to stand over the top tube with both feet flat on the ground.

Not sure? Send us their height and we will tell you what we would put them on.
