Freestyle BMX is exploding in popularity across the world and the team at LUXBMX couldn’t be more excited. Freestyle BMX is essentially an extreme version of bicycle motocross, offering a distinct appeal to those seeking excitement, freedom and creativity. From flowing through dirt jumps, to airing a quarter pipe to grinding a ledge, BMX freestyle bikes are built to handle all manner of terrains while existing as durable and robust instruments in the pursuit of speed, tricks and stoke!
Freestyle bikes are a style of bike that is specifically designed for supporting an extreme version of bicycle motocross, be it jumping, quick changes in speed and direction, being able to handle all manner of punishment in the streets and blasting as many tricks as possible at the skatepark.
The difference between a racing bike and a freestyle BMX bike is related to the intended terrain, in that a race bike is designed to stay low to the ground, reach consistent fast speeds and be easily manoeuvred around a dirt BMX track. Alternatively, a freestyle BMX bike is designed for contrasting conditions, i.e. going high, fluctuating speeds and performing tricks. As a result, a freestyle BMX bike generally comprises a stronger (and thus heavier) build, geometry that recognises the rider will be going slower and higher and accessories/parts that promote performing various tricks.
With a sense of enjoyment and curiosity! BMX freestyle bikes are similar to all other styles of bike in that you would stand over the frame and situate your feet on the pedals and hands on the handlebars. Freestyle bikes are however designed to handle abuse from being ridden on unforgiving surfaces, to navigate various terrains and to be used for tricks. A freestyle BMX may not be ideal for long distances or for racing 7 other riders on the BMX track, it will however be perfect for supporting creativity and entertainment.
Freestyle bikes are great for all riders at varying skill levels, including beginners. It is recommended that a BMX freestyle bike be treated similar to any other style of bike, in that you are best placed to match your size and skill level to the most appropriate bike (i.e. suitable geometry and wheel size, entry all the way to professional standard specifications). Why not come and visit the friendly, highly experienced staff at our Woolloongabba clubhouse, we would love to help you find the perfect bike.
